This tea has an amazing appearance of smooth glossy crescents like tiny delicate edamame shaped buds, olive green in colour that give some of the best aromas reminding us of freshly baked bread. The buds then plump up after brewing and reveal more a lush pea green tone with bold vegetal and corn like aromas. The tea soup is a thick, darker olive hue with full bodied creamy vegetal flavour with rich savoury notes, touches of umami and sharp tartness, enjoying a decent strength of tannins that provide a pleasingly rich lasting flavour. A great easy drinking and invigorating cupful!

One bud and one or two leaf picking standard, harvested on the slopes of Emei Shan in early Spring from tea bushes grown from seed at around 1150m elevation using the premium small leaf Lao Chuan Cha tea cultivar. Skilfully processed with care following traditional techniques, often by hand producing a very fine tea.

Emei Shan is one of four sacred Buddhist mountains in China, enjoying a long and rich history for tea cultivation dating back to the Tang Dynasty. Zhu Ye Qing translating as ‘Bamboo Leaf Green' was first cultivated and produced by the Wan Nian Temple monks in the early 1960s. The tea quickly became highly sought after. Emei Shan’s tea bushes grow between 800-1200m elevation benefitting from year round humid and misty conditions with an excellent diversity of soil and abundant water sources.
